Our Beautiful Sensory Garden
Summer is in full swing in the Sensory Garden. The fish are having little ones, the insects are buzzing, the sun is shining and the plants are growing like crazy.
We wanted our garden to be inclusive to all the people we support and everyone in our community. The garden is wheelchair friendly, and has been designed to stimulate all the senses. We have some people with sight or hearing difficulties, so we have included plants with different smells, textures, edible plants as well as colourful plants. The grasses and trees come alive when the wind blows, they make comforting sounds in the breeze. There is the gentle sound of our streams, trickling gently into our ponds. This year has seen our fish breeding for the first time and we have had lots and lots of tadpoles.

The garden is amazing and we would like to share it with you all. Allie, is one of our volunteers as well as being a trustee. She is a self confessed plant and nature addict and spends much of her time volunteering in our garden as well as helping with her local community gardens. A couple of years ago, the people we support, Allie, staff and volunteers all helped put the vision of the garden together and make it a reality. It was a lot of work, but wow, how the garden has flourished. We try to engage the people we support with nature in the garden and Allie enjoys getting everyone to listen to the birds and watch the insects.
The big things are easy to see, so we thought we would zoom in on some plants and insects (please excuse the photo quality).

The garden constantly evolves through the seasons and years, but it is in spring and summer that everything comes alive. Autumn is where we watch the leaves fall and mother nature slow, but even in winter there is joy to be found in the garden. This year, has been particularly dry and hot, a lot of our plants have loved and thrived in the heat as the deep sensory garden beds allow plant roots to chase every bit of moisture. The life from the local Heswall Dales, surrounds the garden, sending brambles through to prickle our fingers. But no matter the season or the weather you are welcome to come and visit.
If you are part of a walking or other group and fancy having lunch in the picnic area of the sensory gardens, just let Suanne or Zeb know and we can greet you. You can contact us on 0151 666 5190.
