Main Field Crop Preparations
For some time we have been preparing the field for new crops. We have dug, fertilised, prepared beds, sown seeds, raised plants, chitted potatoes, built frames for our beans and now we have started to plant our small crops.
The people we support have been involved in every stage, they have been sowing and watering seeds, pricking out, transplanting and feeding, ready for final planting into our field.

It has taken a long time to get everything prepared, the weeds have been growing well this year and so we have had to spend a lot of time manually removing them. Dale Farm does not use herbicides as we are certified with the Soil Association. All our foodstuff is organically produced, we do not use inorganic fertiliser or insecticides and we use organic compost for all our seeds and crop plants. Instead we rely on manual labour, well rotted manure, crop rotation and companion planting to reduce pests. We believe in producing food in the most natural way possible without the use of chemicals; we deliver an organically produced product to our farm shop, ready for sale to people in our community.
